Covid19 - Information for guests and tourism professionals

From 14 January to 6 February 2022, Saxony has had relaxations in the culture and tourism sector due to the decline in the incidence of infection.

All new rules for Saxony

There is an obligation to wear an FFP2 mask or comparable respirator, among other things, in closed rooms of institutions, businesses, shops, authorities, provided that they are publicly accessible traffic areas and in services close to the body.


The following are currently open in Freiberg:

  •     depending on the incidence of infection, hotels, holiday flats and camping and caravanning sites - 2G+ on arrival and contact registration, non-tourist overnight stays (for business, social, medical reasons) remain possible under 3G
  • Tourist information: the 2G rule applies here; guided city tours will be conducted again from the end of January
  • Gastronomy depending on infection: extended opening hours from 6 am to 10 pm, 2G+ (inside) / 2G (outside) and contact registration
  •  Event gastronomy in the castle with ice skating (winter tent 2G+, ice rink 2G; except for up to 16-year-olds)
  • Retailers: the 2G rule applies here, except for supermarkets, grocery shops, drugstores, pharmacies, opticians, petrol stations, pet supplies.
  • City library: here the 3G rule and contact registration applies
  • Gottfried Silbermann exhibition: open from 14 January 2022 under 2G rule and contact registration
  • Kinopolis Freiberg: open from 15 January 2022 under 2G+ rule and contact registration
  • Mittelsächsisches Theater: open from 16 January 2022 under 2G+ rule and contact registration
  • Freiberg Cathedral: concerts from 14 January 2022 under 2G+ rule and contact registration, guided tour and visit currently not possible
  • Johannisbad swimming pool: expected to open from 22 January under 2G+ rule
  • Zoo: only the passageway from Goethestraße to Lessingstraße is open; the main area of the zoo (passageway sheep and goat enclosure, administration area, children's zoo and playground Rosengarten) is closed! (Opening of the entire zoo planned for the winter holidays from 12-26.02.2022).
  • The 3-G rule and the obligation to wear an FFP2 mask apply during church services.

The following is closed:

  • The Mineral Exhibition terra mineralia currently remains closed until 31 January. It will open for visitors from 1 February (2G+ rule).
  • St. Nicholas Church remains closed to visitors.
  • Due to construction work, the Freiberg Silver Mine and the City and Mining Museum remain closed.
  • The Silver City Tourist Train is planning to resume its journeys from March.
