Freiberg in 48 hours

What could an eventful weekend in the silver city of Freiberg look like? Freiberg is always worth a visit and we would be happy to give you some ideas and suggestions for organising your stay in our city. We look forward to welcoming you soon with a hearty "Glück auf"! (miners´ greeting)

Day 1

14:00

We welcome you to the silver city of Freiberg and hope you had a pleasant journey. After checking into one of the cosy hotels, guest houses or holiday appartments, it is worth making a first detour to the Tourist Information Office on Schloßplatz (Castle square). 

15:00

You will receive all important and useful information about your stay first-hand from our tourism team. If you are not yet in possession of a Silver Card , we recommend that you purchase one here. With the Silver Card you have free admission to the museums and also receive numerous discounts.

15:30

Your information package is best "studied" over a cup of coffee and, of course, a piece of original Freiberger Eierschecke in one of our cosy cafés.

16:00

Afterwards, it is worth climbing the Petri tower, with a total of 220 steps. From here you have one of the best views of the historic old town and the surrounding area.

19:00

You can round off the first day with a hearty dinner in a traditional or rustic restaurant.

But perhaps you still fancy a cultural highlight? Visit the oldest municipal theatre in the world or a concert in the Nikolaikirche. It's worth taking a look at our calender of events

Day 2

10:30

The next day's adventure continues. You can explore the "underground Freiberg" with its many ore veins on a guided tour underground in the largest and oldest mine in Saxony, theSilver  exhibition mine Freiberg erkunden.

13:00 Uhr

Now it's time for a snack in the old town. 

14:00

Explore the beauty of the silver city with its many sights and over 500 individual listed buildings on a guides city tour (from Easter Saturday to the end of October).

16:00

Of course, a visit to the probably largest and most beautiful mineral show in the world is not to be missed. Experience the 3,500 glittering minerals and shining gemstones in the historic ambience of Freudenstein Castle. You will be fascinated by the beauty of  terra mineralia. Promise!

18:00

Whether you prefer gourmet food in an upscale ambience or rustic cuisine: Freiberg knows how to eat and drink well. In the first Saxon city where beer brewing was first mentioned in a document in 1266, a cool Freiberg beer is of course a must.

20:00

An eventful day comes to an end and for those who still want to dance in the evening, we recommend the Concert and Ball House Tivoli. In the summer months (June - August) there are also numerous open-air events at  Freudenstein castle.

Day 3

10:00

Freshly fortified, visit one of the oldest museums in Saxony, the City and Mining Museum, the next morning. Learn interesting facts about Freiberg's history and the world of local silver ore mining.

11:30

Do something good for your eyes and ears and visit the cultural monument par excellence in Freiberg right next door. Discover the treasures of St. Mary´s Cathedral Marien with its two Silbermann organs, the Golden Gate and the Tulip and Miner's Pulpit on a guided tour and then listen to the great Silbermann organ. A treat for everyone.

12:30

Intoxicated by the sounds of the Silbermann Organ, you can review your experiences of the past days over lunch in the historic ambience.

14:00

Before you start your return journey, we strongly recommend that you visit the exhibition in the Silbermann House. At the place where Gottfried Silbermann created 45 of his world-famous organs 300 years ago, you can experience the art of the master organ builder and the fascinating queen of instruments in many different ways.


With many experiences in your luggage, it's time to say goodbye to the Silver City.
