World Heritage "Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří"

World Heritage since 2019: The Erzgebirge/Krusnohori Mining Region

Glück auf (miners´ greeting): The "Erzgebirge/Krusnohori Mining Region" has made it. On July 2019, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Baku awarded it World Heritage status and included it in the list of heritage sites worthy of protection.

Freiberg's Mayor Sven Krüger is overjoyed: "We are a World Heritage Site. The mining region - and in the middle of it the Silver City of Freiberg - has won the title. I am proud - proud of our silver history, of our Saxon explorers, of our living mining traditions. The World Heritage title crowns almost 1000 years of mining history with all its achievements! A crown that should shine - to the whole world, to whom we want to show our region, our history, but also the present.

First Saxony, now the whole world: Freiberg's silver once brought glory and splendour to the whole of Saxony, and now the Silver City, together with 21 other sites in the region, holds the World Heritage title!"
