Freibergsdorf hammer mill

Experience a guided tour and show forging in the over 400-year-old Freibergsdorf hammer mill, a gem of technical history on the romantic hammer pond in Freiberg.

This jewel of historical forging technology is idyllically located on the edge of the old town in the former Freibergsdorf. Experience impressive forging demonstrations with the heavy water-powered tail hammers. The hammer mill was lovingly and expertly restored between 1979 and 1989 and is one of the contemporary witnesses of the Freiberg mining and smelting district.

The hammers of the Freibergsdorf hammer mill are fully functional. A hammer ditch is fed from the hammer pond above, the water from which is used to pressurise and drive the wooden water wheel on top, which has a diameter of almost four metres.
