How to get to Freiberg

Arrival by car

Autobahn from Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin, Dresden, Leipzig, Chemnitz:
Autobahn A4 - Exit Siebenlehn - B 101 direction Freiberg

Autobahn from Prag:
Autobahn A17 – Exit Kesselsdorf – B 173 direction Freiberg

Federal highway:

  • from Dresden: B 173 direction Freiberg
  • from Chemnitz: B 173 direction Freiberg
  • from Annaberg- Buchholz: B 101 direction Freiberg

Arrival by bike

Freiberg is also easy to reach by bike.

Suparegional cycle routes
Four supra-regional cycle routes intersect in the silver city. These are the Mittellandroute D4, the Saxon city route (Sächsische Städteroute (SSR)), the Muldental cycle path (Muldental-Radweg) and the cycle path along the Silver Road (Radweg an der Silberstraße).

Alternatively, the following route can be used from Dresden:
S 194 from Dresden-Plauen via Freital and cycle through the Tharandt Forest to Grillenburg. Via S 189 to Klingenberg and there change to the S 190 in the direction of Colmnitz and cycle via Hilbersdorf to Freiberg.

Altitude: approx. 315 m

Elbe Cycle Route (Elberadweg) to Dresden (Schmilka):
Take advantage of the very well developed cycle paths on the Elbe Cycle Path from Cuxhaven via Hamburg, Magdeburg and Meissen to Dresden.

Arrive by train

Freiberg train station is located outside the city centre, which you can reach on foot in about 15 minutes. Cabs are also available at the station. After about 5 minutes walk in the direction of the city centre, you will find yourself at the bus station, the central stop for local transport.

Arrive by Deutsche Bahn (DB; German Railways) or  Mitteldeutsche Regiobahn (MRB)

  • from Southern and Western Germany via Chemnitz

  • from Northern and Eastern Germany via Dresden

Arrive by Intercity (Deutsche Bahn)

  • two direct trains daily  from Rostock/Warnemünde via Waren (Müritz), Neustrelitz, Oranienburg, Berlin, Airport Berlin BER-Terminal 1-2, Doberlug-Kirchhain, Elsterwerda and Dresden to Freiberg and Chemnitz

Arrive by Freiberger Eisenbahn

  • from Holzhau, Rechenberg-Bienenmühle, Mulda, Lichtenberg, etc.  (located south of Freiberg)

Arrive by Bus

REGIOBUS Mittelsachsen GmbH is integrated into the Central Saxony transport association (Verkehrsverbund Mittelsachsen). It offers convenient and inexpensive public transport connections between the city and the surrounding area.
