Presented at its best

In the historical ambiance of Freudenstein Castle the exhibition with a size of 1,500 square metres displays treasures from the earth's interior and the outer space. With an appealing and well-thought-out interior and lighting design the great varieties of shapes and colors of the minerals are presented in more than 140 showcases. A special highlight is the treasure chamber: Visitors can gaze at enchanting precious stones, meteoric stones and the biggest and most beautiful exhibits in a historical vault.

Marveling, smiling, learning

Interested visitors can learn anything about mineral properties, formation and transformation processes as well as the usage of minerals. If you wish to be a real mineralogist for one day, just visit the research platform where you have the chance to get a real insight into minerals at special microscopes.  Apart from the minerals on show, many more are stored in a seven storey unit. This depot gives access to mineral samples from all over the world and contains many samples from deposits that are inaccessible today.

Mineralogical Collection Germany in the KRÜGERHAUS

A permanent exhibition of minerals from German sources has crowned the "terra mineralia" exhibition in the neighbouring KRÜGERHAUS since 2012. Beautiful and fascinating treasures from Germany await visitors from near and far: Silver wires from Freiberg, gems from the Vogtland region, petal-like Barite specimens from the Sauerland region, green pyromorphite from Bad Ems, raspberry-coloured rhodochrosite from the Siegerland region, beautiful pyrolusite from the Black Forest, honey-golden fluorite from the Oberpfalz, large halite cubes from Thuringia and filigree gypsum crystals from Saxony-Anhalt.

These are only a few of the magnificent specimens that one can admire in the newly renovated KRÜGERHAUS. Take your time and discover the diversity and beauty of minerals from all over Germany in this unique exhibition, from mineral-rich Saxony up to the Saarland, from Schleswig-Holstein all the way to the mountains of Bavaria.
