In the historic ambience of Freudenstein Castle TU Bergakademie Freiberg presents over 3,500 minerals, gemstones and meteorites in the permanent exhibition "terra mineralia", said to be the most beautiful mineralogical collection in the world. The collection offers visitors a veritable mineralogical journey around the world.
Follow the trail of the rocks and discover some of the world's most colourful gems and the sparkling and shiny life-size minerals in a new light. Visit the stunning treasure chamber where some of the world's most beautiful and largest minerals are shown. The treasures of famous deposits in Asia, America, Africa, Australia and Europe are displayed on three floors.

Presented at its best
In the historical ambiance of Freudenstein Castle the exhibition with a size of 1,500 square metres displays treasures from the earth's interior and the outer space. With an appealing and well-thought-out interior and lighting design the great varieties of shapes and colors of the minerals are presented in more than 140 showcases. A special highlight is the treasure chamber: Visitors can gaze at enchanting precious stones, meteoric stones and the biggest and most beautiful exhibits in a historical vault.
Marveling, smiling, learning
Interested visitors can learn anything about mineral properties, formation and transformation processes as well as the usage of minerals. If you wish to be a real mineralogist for one day, just visit the research platform where you have the chance to get a real insight into minerals at special microscopes. Apart from the minerals on show, many more are stored in a seven storey unit. This depot gives access to mineral samples from all over the world and contains many samples from deposits that are inaccessible today.
